Esther : a scripture tragedy, circa 1755-1758.

Manuscript, in a single hand, of an English translation by William Carpenter of Racine's play, based on the biblical story of Esther. The volume also contains approximately twenty poems, apparently by Carpenter, including "On a Friend in the Smallpox;" "An Elegy on a Lapdog that Died in Puppying;" "A Moral Essay on Human Life;" and "To a Lady on Her Birth-day." Several of the poems are dated.
